Sheboygan County employers have thousands of good-paying jobs, and those who relocate to the area will find a great quality of life that includes affordable housing in safe neighborhoods.
Sheboygan is a great place “if you’re looking for a family place to live with good schools and a lot lower cost of living”, said Donna Bartels, a realtor with Re/Max Universal in Sheboygan Falls.
It is one of the rare areas where job growth has not meant unaffordable house prices. For the past two years, Sheboygan County has had the second fastest job growth in the state of Wisconsin.
While house prices rose 4.2 percent in 2015, the median house price still stood at a very affordable $125,000.
It is a bargain compared to trendy parts of Milwaukee like Wauwatosa, Bartels said. A former co-worker just moved to Wauwatosa and paid $380,000 for a house that would have cost in $175,000 in the Sheboygan area, she said.
The area has a great range of homes available too, from affordable starter homes for young families. Recently, Bartels was promoting an open house for a 4-bedroom, one and a half bath home for $79,900.
All of the communities in Sheboygan County have historic gems, like this gorgeous 3-bedroom, 2-bath Victorian for $260,000 right in the center of one of Sheboygan’s lakeshore neighborhoods.
For someone moving to the Sheboygan area and looking to buy a showpiece home, there are homes on some of the many golf courses in the area with all of the modern amenities and features and gorgeous lakeshore homes for prices up to a half million, reasonable for the quality of the homes and the quality of life.
Property taxes in the area are also comparable if not lower than the Milwaukee area, Bartels added. While taxes in the city of Sheboygan might be a bit higher, they are lower in the town of Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls.
Schools are also excellent with ACT scores above the national average, graduation rates all above 90 percent at area public high schools and low teacher to student ratios.
Bartels also says that the Sheboygan boasts excellent amenities along Lake Michigan, including a great marina and the “phenomenal” Blue Harbor resort. “We have the things that Door County does, but we don’t have Door County prices,” she added.
